Bit tired, too much work (as in worrying about Windows 10 tablet updates work; nothing fun, mind you, the exact opposite of fun, in fact) and stuck on the laptop at home. I can sketch loads of stuff (see above) but can’t motivate myself to actually build it. I need to work less with Windows 10 updates, so I do.
This probably doesn’t look that exciting and I apologise for the close ups of my hands. But it is interesting. This is our library self-service progressive web app running on an old Kindle Fire and printing a receipt. The app will run on any device with a touchscreen and doesn’t need any printer driver; which makes for lots of potential uses.
Not just because by “stepping in” you’re speeding up the end of libraries, nor because of any notion of professionalism. No — volunteer–run libraries are an experiment in a mean, barebones state, testing how far governments can go in divesting themselves of any responsibility or cost. They’re a softer target than, say, adult care, but they’re the first target, the first justification.
